Dungeness Crabbing (Seasonal)

Dungenous Crabbing (Seasonal)

Found in the eelgrass beds and bottoms of the North American West Coast, the Dungeness crab is a famed delicacy in the region. This species of crabs gets its name from one of its popular habitat, which is the Dungeness Spit in the Strait of Juan De Fuca. This particular area in the Pacific Ocean lies between the US, and Canada is one of the most famous habitats for the Dungeness. Catching this crab is a popular sporting event for crabbers as they compete to find the largest, most meaty crab and boast it.

Unlike crabbing for the smaller species, Dungeness crab is more rewarding as it is quite large. This longer living species is termed by many chefs to be one of the finest ones in the world. While per LB price for a Dungeness crab can be $49.99 to $59.99, catching it yourself is fun at a whole new level.

Salmon Fishing

Salmon Fishing

If you were to seek an action-packed fishing experience unlike the relaxed Sturgeon fishing, we would surely say its Salmon fishing. One of the most action-packed fish is the Salmon, and you need to hold the rod strong when you’ve got one on the hook.

Columbia River fishing is considered to be a sporting event in itself, and we know exactly when to have your favorite Salmon for you.

What are the three Salmons you would find?

Three prominent seasonal salmons are:

  • Spring Chinook – a high-fat salmon and the best for table fare.
  • Summer Chinook – it’s amongst the largest ones on the list and reaching up to the 30lb range.
  • Fall Chinook – this is one of the most action-packed ones on the list. Getting them on the hook might be easy, but pulling them on the boat isn’t!
  • The Coho Salmon – This is one fish that brings fun for you! Unlimited acrobatics and a head-on fight are what you should be ready for when the Coho is on your line!
  • NW Sturgeon knows your hunger to get a salmon, and we know where to take you for that on the Columbian River. It’s right where the river feeds the ocean that you get your hands on a scrumptious looking Salmon.

Walleye Fishing

Walleye Fishing

Anglers get your heads up, we’ve got something for you! Walleye fishing is undoubtedly the best experience for the anglers. Catching them at the Columbia River was not possible a hundred years back because it was only in the 1950s that they were introduced here. And since then it has become a yearly fun activity for fishing lovers, especially the angler and families with kids. People generally enjoy Walleye fishing as it’s an action-packed event with lots of reeling in and out as you get yours on the Walleye.

When is the best time to get your hands on the Columbia River Walleye?

You may find Walleyes year around, but getting your hands on Walleyes in the Columbia River is easier during early summer and spring days. This is when you would find schools of Walleye feeding on the Salmon and Steelhead Smolts migrating downstream. What makes this more fun is that Columbia River Walleye fishing is currently not limited. It may, however, be useful to control the fishery to avoid the risk of eliminating the species.

Some tips for catching the Walleyes:

  • Get your hands on live bait to lure them to the hook. The best ones are leeches, Minnows, and Nightcrawlers. These wriggling beings are like moving to a zombie for the Walleye
  • The peak time to fill a boat with Walleyes is at dawn and dusk.
  • An easy catch is at a depth between 15 to 30 feet in the river. But this may be dependent on the season too.
  • Test a strong fishing line let’s say something between 6 – 12lbs is good enough for a Walleye
