Walleye & Shad
Columbia River walleye fishing is gaining popularity due to the abundant action and excellent table fare. Fish in to the high teens are caught every winter. My personal biggest was a 36 inch post spawn female that was released. Normal days of 30-50 fish is common. This fishery is very easily taught and great for kids. Prime days are mid April to July 4th.
Shad were introduced to the Columbia River in the 1950s. Current numbers are around 6 million. These little fighters start showing up in late May thru June. Whether you are looking for crab bait or the popular roe, this is as action packed as anyone can handle. 200 fish days are the norm. Prime time is June.
